Free Crochet Pattern - The Revel Beret

A simple accessory can make a world of a difference. Spice up your Fall/Winter with the Revel Beret, fit for any cold weather celebration or last-minute gift giving.

Materials  

  • 6 mm hook 

  • 5 mm hook 

  • Measuring tape/Gauge Ruler 

  • Scissors 

  • Yarn Needle  

Terminology  

  • MC – Magic Circle 

  • Ch – Chain 

  • Dc – Double Crochet  

  • Rev – Reverse 

  • RS – Right Side  

  • Sc – Single Crochet  

  • Sc2tog – Single Crochet Two Together 

  • St(s) - Stitch(es) 

  • WS – Wrong Side 

  • Yo – Yarn Over 

Special Stitches  

  • Sc2tog – Insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a loop, insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through all 3 loops on hook. 

  • Rev Sc – single crochet from left to right instead of right to left 

Gauge 

  • 16 dc sts x 8 rows = 4”/10 cm, blocked  

Finished Measurements – to fit up to 21” in circumference 

  • Length: 7.5”/19cm 

  • Brim Opening: 9.5”/24cm 

Pattern Notes  

General 

  • The Revel Beret is written in standard US terms. 

  • Tension and yarn choice may yield different results. 

  • Read the pattern carefully before beginning. 

 Construction  

  • Crocheted in the round from the top down seamlessly.  

  • Beginning chains do not count as a stitch. 

  • The smaller hook is used for the brim section only.  

  • For a slouchier hat, crochet more non-increase rounds before adding brim.  

Pattern 

With larger hook, make MC

Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 2, dc 8 in MC, join with sl st to first dc, turn. (8 sc) 

Rnd 2(WS): Ch 2, 2 dc in each dc, join, turn. (16)  

Rnd 3: Ch 2, [dc in next st, 2 dc in next st] eight times, join, turn. (24)  

Rnd 4: Ch 2, [dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st] eight times, join, turn. (32) 

Rnd 5: Ch 2, [dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st] eight times, join, turn. (40) 

Rnd 6: Ch 2, [dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st] eight times, join, turn. (48) 

Rnd 7: Ch 2, [dc in next 5 sts, 2 dc in next st] eight times, join, turn. (56) 

Rnd 8: Ch 2, [dc in next 6 sts, 2 dc in next st] eight times, join, turn. (64) 

Rnd 9: Ch 2, [dc in next 7 sts, 2 dc in next st] eight times, join, turn. (72) 

Rnd 10: Ch 2, [dc in next 8 sts, 2 dc in next st] eight times, join, turn. (80) 

Next Rnd: Ch 2, dc in each st around, join, turn.  

Repeat previous round three more times or until project measures approximately 6.5”/16.5cm from top to bottom. Turn to work on RS.  

Brim 

Rnd 1 (RS): With smaller hook, ch 1, sc in first dc and in each dc around, join with sl st to first dc, do not turn. (80 sc) 

Rnds 2-3: Ch 1, sc in first sc and in each sc around, join.  

Decrease Round 

Rnd 4: Ch 1, *sc in 7 sc, sc2tog next 2 sc; rep from * to last 8 sts, sc in last 8 sts, join. (72 sc) 

 Rep Rnds 2 and 3 once more.  

Last Rnd: Ch 1, rev sc in each st around, join to first rev sc with sl st.  

Fasten off.  

Finishing 

  • Weave in remaining ends.  

  • Block if desired.
