The Genesis Fringe Scarf is one of four patterns from the Genesis Collection, which was deliberately designed for beginner and experienced crocheters alike. This pattern was first designed in 2017 when I desired a crochet scarf that resembled knit garter stitch scarves, I saw floating around the internet.

This pattern serves as a guide to familiarize yourself with the single crochet ribbing stitch. Single crochet ribbing creates a thick and dense fabric depending on your hook size. When used, it creates great accessories and garments for keeping warm in extreme cold weather. The Genesis Fringe Scarf is made in one flat piece with the choice of adding fringe. Once complete you end up with a classic winter staple fit for any occasion!

To crochet this scarf you will only need 2 skeins of Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick and an 11.5mm crochet hook. To substitute, any bulky weight 6 yarn will suffice, and a hook to meet gauge but be mindful that different yarns can affect the stitch definition and texture. While gauge isn’t crucial for this pattern, it will affect the scarf's final size and texture.  A larger hook will result in looser stitches and yield a softer and drapier fabric, while a smaller hook will result in tighter stitches and yield a denser and firm fabric. See below for a list of yarn substitutes, including one of Lion Brand’s newest releases – Wool Ease Aire

If you're comfortable with basic crochet techniques, you are ready to create a cozy, stylish scarf, so let’s get started!
